Deciding on MS Treatment

Posted on June 17, 2019

Studies have shown that the sooner someone with multiple sclerosis (MS) begins treatment – and stays on it – the more likely they will be able to slow progression and the onset of troubling symptoms. Yet, member discussions on MyMSTeam suggest that deciding what treatment to start or switch to can be challenging. The decision is complicated by concerns about treatment side effects, safety, convenience, and costs.

We surveyed 658 U.S. members of MyMSTeam to get their opinions on what would help make treatment decisions easier and what members hope to get from treatment.

Members told us that hearing about others’ experiences with a specific treatment as well as learning about ways to help with the cost of treatment would go a long way in making the decision easier. (You can learn more about ways to save on costs here.)

When asked what’s most compelling in choosing a new MS treatment, members told us they want the drug to slow progression and prevent new lesions.
