Who has a Baclofen pump and why? Did you start with oral pills then moved to pump?
Most people start with as high a dose as can be tolerated of Baclofen. Tizanadine may be used additionally. In a small number of cases, like mine, severe and pretty disabling spasticity occurs and a baclofen pump becomes an option. I'm just now after 15yrs. of pretty bad spasticity, am seeking all the info on getting a pump. This pump administers high doses of baclofen directly into the spine. Most doctors try all oral spasticity medications first.
From the day I started with MS 35 years ago, my legs have always been my big problem. But back then there was no medicine on the market, so I just put up with it. The baclofen I use is pill form I don't want a pump.
I don't have a pump yet. I wondered if maybe sometime I will though. I do get really serious craps on my feet in my back so I'm not sure. I'm trying to avoid taking a lot of narcotic type medicine for as long as I can
@FrancineDiBonventuroGray the intrathecal is absorbed directly into the spinal fluid, therefore doesn't go through digestion
I have a Baclofen pump. I needed a high dose of Baclofen because I have extreme stiffness and spasticity. I started by taking it orally, but I needed so much that it wasn't safe because of the side effects and what it could be doing to my kidneys/liver. I would do it all over again if I had to make the initial decision. I have had a pump for over 8 years now
My Husband Has Spasticity That Has Become Painful Enough That He's Willing To Try Baclofen. Does Anyone Have Personal Experience With It?
