I have told my employer, mainly because I have been off of work so much, some explanation was necessary. Everyone has been pretty understanding so far.
Yes, I went on a job interview about two weeks. It was actually at an agency I used to work for about 5 1/2 years ago. They asked me to consider a Systems Manager III position. In the interview I told I would be new boss about some of my challenges with having MS and he said that he appreciated me telling him that but he was not worried about my capabilities as he knew I am still a hard worker, dedicated and never gave a second thought about asking me to consider the position. The HR director was in the interview and said the same thing. Of course I used to work there - they have been keeping up with me for the past 5 years apparently! I won't lie it made me feel really good to know that someone wants me! : )
I appreciate everyone's answers. My former employer knows because that is where I was when I had my first severe exacerbation. But I was recently laid off and am looking for a job. I have no intentions of disclosing because I need no accommodations at this time. I'm encouraged, however, to hear of employers knowing ahead of time and still hiring.
Not until I've been on the job long enough to prove myself a good worker.
I would advise against it. But, you may be forced into it. Telling my new employer didn't work out so well for me. Follow your instincts.
