What they're reporting is that they believe they have found markers, made of proteins, that are unique to those in the very very early stages of MS. Due to it being specific to the early onset, versus those who've had it for years, they are hopeful that the marker may offer a faster specific diagnosis instead of the currently used marker(s). The markers looked for currently simply verify the patient has an autoimmune disease.
I believe this to be a significant find. It gives hope that others may be diagnosed much earlier and especially faster, thus saving valuable time.

They've known that the grey matter gets attacked for years now. It's an odd piece I must say.

@mishelle - you're right about various types of biomarkers in the CSF signifying MS or even a bunch of other types of bad bad things. That's why this piece of writing seems so odd to me.

Forgive me but I'm new to this. I thought if there was protein in the spinal fluid then that was one of the "markers" for MS. Are they saying a specific protein is related?
