I've had pain ever since my ON first appeared. That was 1 1/2 yrs ago. Everyday, day in day out. Feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife in my eye! When I told the ophthalmologist this 6 months after the dx he told me that this pain was no longer ON but a eye migraine. My md put me on Topamax and amytripline but it did nothing. Did nothing but made me crazy! So now I take fiorcet and if it's really bad I take a norco and place ice on my eye. When the pain is really bad I get very blurry vision or a tunnel vision in my eye. I have bouts of optic neuritis every couple of years. I usually have to have infusions done and depending on the severity the treatments range from 3 days of steroid to add much as 5 days with an additional 3 days. The reason it's not 8 days is because my doctors has me do the 5 days and wait to see if it's better a couple of days afterward. When I tell him it's not better I start my second round of infusions. Not fun going through all of that. Have you been treated with steroid infusions before?

I suffer from eye pain all of the time. My neuro opth has told me its not optic neuritis but cranial nerve pain. I have Neurotin I take for it as a maintenance drive and when it becomes acutely worse I take hydrocodone or something like that.

The only relief I have found, and it was not a cure but it helped for Optic neuritis Pain was the daily use of Copaxone/ I am finding the 40mg every other day? the pain is coming back. I may switch back to the 20mg. Keep in mind I have many stress factors in my life.... so that could attribute to the pain also. If arthritis pain relief Tylenol doesn't work I know it's a flare.... If it does?? I know it's pseudo...
