Avonex Or Rebif?

A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭

My new Neurologist wants me to stop taking Copaxone due to extreme headaches. He asked me to research Avonex & Rebif. Any suggestions?

I found it helpful to cool injection site a bit and warm the syringe in my hand before injecting. also after injection massage the shot site gently with the alcohol pad for about a minute. For me this has helped reduce bumps on the injection site.

I am on Avonex and have been since dx 12-11 and I can say the injections were a pain and had to take pain pill 1 hr before the shot which I dreaded doing, But since they have came out with the pen it is a pleasure to do weekly injections. no pills before or after. I have always did it be for bed so sleep thru the side effects, and have always did it on wed night so it didn't mess up weekend. Cause the day after sometimes ain't the best, sometimes not always. Everyone is different but like I said I'm happy with the avonex pen and no new lessions for the past 2 yrs. of being on it avonex.

I have been using Avonex for 13 years. The first 6 months I had flu like symptoms & then they subsided I am very happy with the new pen for injection. I'm 61 & still going strong !

I have been on Avonex 8 years with no major side effects. Once week and I'm done. I have no fear of long needles. If you follow this site you will find others had horrible problems with Avonex.
I believe you will find this pattern with all the various treatments. If you ask 10 people, 5 love it 5 hate it.
I don't give advice but if it was a choice I had to make for MYSELF, I would just flip a coin.

I feel like I have done them all. Avonex made me worse so did Copaxone and Betasoron. Did Tysabri that was the best then had to get off that so now I am on Tecfidera and it seems to be doing ok. Nothing is easy. The most important thing is you. You need to think about what is best for you.
