My mom used to let babies suck the sugar off her finger to stop there hiccups.

And how insulting that after about the third day the nurse, who was the sympathetic one, told me they thought I was addicted to the medicine I was taking...and they were waiting for me to have a meltdown. Apparently the only physician there who understood my problem was the ER Dr. and he was gone for the week. The nurse said they just didn't know what was wrong with me. I just got up and went home because the hiccups had faded. I asked my neurologist why this happened and he said, it was a confusing disease, etc.

I get hiccups like gasping. About ten years ago or so I had it so bad I was hospitalized but they never found the problem other than that my vocal cord was temporarily paralyzed.
