Is it bad to drink alcohol when you have ms? Sounds like a dumb question but I've always wondered because alcohol affects your nervous system. Never asked a doctor either because I've never remembered.

I'm not on any drugs. Wine is my drug of choice.

I was not told to not drink alcohol, but have found it affects me quicker than before M.S. so I try to drink in moderation.

I have a shirt that reads "I'm not drunk, I have MS", it makes me laugh because sometimes the way I walk stone cold sober looks like I have had one to many "tappers", or there is a 6.0 earthquake going on. That being said, I do still enjoy an occasional cocktail in moderation, and have not felt any negative impact.

I know my limitations and keep it at a glass or so of wine. I may drink a little more if I am safely at home.

When I was diagnosed, I was strongly advised by a naturopath to cut out all alcohol. I didn't drink at all for a few years. Now I indulge in a glass of wine or a margarita now and then. Doesn't seem to hurt me. I do stay away from anything that contains gluten. No beer, and only the high quality tequila for me!
