Does anyone else have a spouse who doesn't like your family? How do you handle it? My husband wouldn't sit down to have dinner with my sister. It really bothers me. I have spoken to him about it. He says he doesn't like my sister because she dictates all the time. She is bossy. I have spoken to her about this and she doesn't see it. She complains that my husband is too OCD. I hate being in the middle.
Just keep them separated, sounds like they are both acting like children.
I can understand how you feel caught in middle. My husband use to enjoy my sister's personality until my father passed away. He saw a different side of her that we as family knew existed but he didn't. He now wants nothing to do with her. As a family, we don't see each other too often because we live in separate states. Yet he will not go where they are located. Eventually he may give in but I doubt it. I would explain to both parties that they need to be civilized to one another out of respect to the other people present.
I , know the stress it presents FOR you.....I agree Annint. I also suggest, only because I am in a similiar situation. CONTINUE w/ your immediate family EVEN if he does not forget his ego? His opinion? Make sure your kids have a constant visitation w/ them so as time goes they can make their OWN opinion and you still have 'blood' relationship...where is the unconditional love'? You can have it, perhaps in time he'll just leave the room when Sister gets under his skin.
Thank you all for your kindness and advice. It made me feel a little better.
I don't expect them to love each other. I do expect courtesy and respect for me. We have been together 20 years. Get over the differences already.
