Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone experience recurring uti often?
From what I understand this is fairly common and has been for me. I drink a lot of water, empty my bladder as soon as I feel the need and take a maintenance dose of antibiotic after sex. Cranberry is good to help keep bacteria from sticking to the bladder walls and therefore infecting.....but you need concentrate and not regular juice. I use Cystex cranberry liquid and take 2 tablespoons a day. Hope this helps!
I had several Uris when I first was diagnosed including a miserable allergic reaction to macrobid), I asked everyone what I can do yo prevent hem. First, I concentrate on emptying my bladder completely (I received a tip to pee, count to ten, try again, count to ten again and keep going until nothing comes out. The next thing I did was start taking d mannose, which was recommended by a pharmacist. Whenever I start feeling one coming on, I spend a day drinking lots is water and taking this and I haven't has another infection for over a year. Of course, I have no scientific proof that this works and it might just be my improved bathroom habits. For others, it might be worth a try. Just type d mannose into amazon and see the reviews.
I get them quite often as well. I've always had issues with UTI, even before I was diagnosed with MS, but it seems like now when I get one, it is almost impossible to get rid of. Macrobid does nothing for me anymore. Last UTI I had, I had the lab grow a culture to figure out the best antibiotics to use to kill it. My Dr. originally prescribed Baclofen to help relax my bladder so I can empty all the way, but it gave me horribly painful bladder spasms. She switched me to Oxybutynin Chloride (not sure what the brand name is). I haven't picked it up from the pharmacy yet, but it may be something to look into.
Incorporate Cranberry Juice into your diet. Cut back on caffiene(sp). Drink lots of water!!!! I have my coffee in the morning but i drink a few glasses of cranberry juice(100%) and water the rest of the day.
