I had been feeling unusually tired (would sleep 9 hours/night and wake up tired). I know that fatigue can be a symptom with MS but it has never been one of my symptoms. I suddenly noticed my hair was thinning and I had put on 5 lbs without changing my eating habits. At my routine neurologist appointment I told him about my fatigue and he said he'd contact my MS specialist and she may want to prescribe Ritalin. I asked if he'd run a thyroid test, it came back as hypothyroidism (runs in family)… read more
I've had hypothyroidism for I think 5 years now and it is relatively well controlled. That being said, I've always felt fatigued, even when the doctors say my medication is at the right dose. Now that I've recently been diagnosed MS, I think it's only gotten worse. I am an expert at taking lunchtime naps in my car at work and always keep a pillow in the car for just that reason. I'm on levothyroxine too, and it does work because I can tell when I miss a day, but I do wish it would do more. If anyone has advice on how to deal with hypothyroidism and MS fatigue, I'm all ears!
Yes, I also have it for at least 10 years now, maybe more. I still have significant fatigue even though my levels are controlled with levothyroxine. I think the fatigue due to the MS is so severe that even if I go off my levothyroxine for a month I don't feel any more fatigued than when I'm on it.
I was hyperthyroid and had the radiation to ablate my thyroid several years ago. I now take Synthroid daily. I wish, really wish, I could cure brain fog and spasms with the thyroid supplement ... but that hasn't happened for me.
I have Hashimotos it is a type of thyroid thing that goes up and down. I have had it for like 10+ years. I did not think it was a big deal till I started to read about it and ms.
Thank you all for advice and stories. I've been on my medicine for almost 2 weeks now and the tiredness and slight weight gain are resolving themselves...now all I need to do is stop losing my hair! I've read about some supplements that can help but they seem to not be recommended with the Levothyroxine. Any other ideas about this?
