My neuro wants me to continue Tecfidera and just monitor white blood cells every six months. Is this good or crazy?

My neuro told me that there was a case where someone was taking tecfidera and died of PML BUT the jury was still out on if Tecfidera caused the PML or if there were other contributing factors.

Are you sure you don't mean Tysabri? JC virus is a Tysabri thing. and if you test positive, it could be because of only a "trace amount" of virus cells. Trust your doctor. Tysabri is monitored very well.

The drug companies don't want you to sue them if you get PML. So I would think (hope!) that getting tested every 6 months is sufficient. My dr said he'd let me get tested every month if I wanted. (I'm on tysabri, so it's a little different) if you are a low positive, maybe that's why your neuro isn't having you get it done more often. I know for tysabri the requirement is every 6 months if you are negative and every 3 months if you are positive.

I was on this also but I didn't like the side effects and JVC positive.
