I am confused about the no contrast lesion thing. I recently had an mri that showed more lesions on my brain since my last on in January of this year. Nureo said they were inactive. This was during what felt like a flare up. What the crap does that mean? How can they be inactive if you feel like you're loosing quality of life?
My neuro just responds that it's to be expected that symptoms pop every once in a while. I figure, it's not his worry. If doctors went to bed at night with the burden of the world on their shoulders, they would be less use to us than a spilt milk. Everyone has to limit their worries. Even if I had energy of a child, I couldn't take on 100 other people's problems 24/7. Just imagine the good semaritan who feeds the hungry, they go home after and think not once of where all those people are sleeping. I take it upon myself to Web search my questions. If I have a real concern, one I can't get answers to, then I keep those questions for my neuro. If your neuro has a patient's portal, all the better. The battle is more than people without it can imagine, it's just as much an emotional battle as it is a physical one.
Lesions are scars. When you are in an active flare they are what's in process of being created. The damage they do is what's causing your symptoms. MS progesses at a different rates for different people. I suppose it has a lot to do with how much damage & where it is located. We're all kind of like electric cords that get worn and frayed, the signals don't always make it across the gap those scars have created. If only the medical community could find us our own duct tape, we'd all be fine :)
The lesions are just part of the problem. ....the Myelin on the nerves is what causes alot of the problem...it dissipates in random places..... so when the steroids shrink and make the lesions inactive the exposed nerves can still show many signs and symptoms, such as fatigue, heat sensitivity, dizziness....
My Neurologist had 23andme gene breakdown and was able to learn what vitamins and meds and in what form will help me. Turns out some of the stuff I've been taking is totally useless and some I just have to take in a different form. Also gives me an idea of what I need to look for in the future. We live in amazing times.
Stress and illness can cause exacerbations, and moving can be very stressful. If only we could live stress free :/
