I was wondering how many have had a spinal tap and was it positive for ocular bands Igg and Igm. I had one and my ocular bands were negative. My Neurologist says they are usually positive for MS, but 10% of MS parents don't have positive ocular banding. He will not give me MS meds because of this. He wants me 2 go 2 a MS Center at Johns Hopkins for more extensive tests. I do have all the symptoms of MS especially the lesions in my brain and spine. Any help would be greatful. Thanks Teresa
@A MyMSTeam Member I find most of these doc's have there way of doing things,after 20 mri's ,3 0r 4 hundred thousand dollars with all those test ,3 years later they dx with the electrical test that was about $5,000. this is after telling 3-5 norro's what happens to me after getting into my hot tub then I find out that's how they use to test 30-40 years ago for ms
I have had multiple MRI's with and without contrast and the spinal tap which I think turned out to be traumatic tap cause there was blood in the spinal fluid - I had 2 or more bands but still no meds cuase we have to rule out an aneurysm being the cause of the blood in my CSF.
I agree - if my next visit to neurologist isn't what I feel is right will be at least attempting to find a new one - though he has been pretty good it is seeming to take forever to get something to slow this down - before any more of my body and mind take the month off - Good luck - listen to your instincts though you may need a second opinion and it can never hurt to get one.
I had a spinal tap after many MRIs before they would say it was MS.
I personally find only the old style Drs will ask for this. The MRI has outdated the need for a spinal tap. I had one back in 1999 but the dr was looking for something else as well. Perhaps talk with your Nero and ask why this test is being preferred over a MRI. If you are not happy then get another opinion. But now after 16 yrs my MRIs light up like Christmas trees and I have been through a few neuros
Cleveland clinic Dx me with MRI only no spinal tap, I actually was told you don't need that to DX
