My understanding is that testing for MS is more of a process of elimination and the tests, particularly the blood tests, rule out other things. When I had my blood tests the results were, you don't have lupus, you don't have syphilis, you don't have ___. It was a long list of "you don't haves". The first MRI didn't show any lesions, so they told me I had transverse spinal myelitis - on layman's terms inflammation of the spine on both sides of unknown origin. It wasn't until the follow-up almost 2 years later that they saw the lesions and changed it to MS.

This is not an easy disease to have. Often you look normal but feel awful. You say you're tired and then someone tells you how tired they are. It's had for people to understand what this is if they don't have it. Before I had my first episode I was running 3-5 miles a day ... and now I am lucky if I can walk for 20 minutes. I try to focus on the positive and have a good sense of humor. That's what makes it manageable for me.
