Does anyone know anything about the treatment in Canada that they claim is reversing MS disabilites?
Basically they harvest your own stem cells, then destroy your immune system with chemotherapy, then build you a new immune system with your own stem cells. Very risky procedure but apparently shows dramatic results for some people (can walk again, symptoms sent into remission for a long time, etc.). I know that 1 person died (out of 24 in the study), and 1 had severe liver complications. But it gives me hope to know they're working on a possible cure for this disease (or at least a way to stop/reverse disability, if not a cure), I'm sure they'll fine-tune it over time so it's safer.
@A MyMSTeam Member - I believe you described HSCT. I don't think the treatment in Canada has chemo. If anyone is looking for something I did HSCT (this one has chemo) & it was the 3rd best thing I've ever done. The other 2 was being at the birth of my 2 kids.
Oh thanks, I haven't read that yet
I also heard that this treatment is only for RRMS.
I heard of it. It's a rem cell treatment. I'm not to big on it because it does nothing for the B & T cells that are attacking the myelin. It's almost sounds like a band aid fix.
