Fatigue

Fatigue

I have fatigue like mist MSers. I know there are medications out there to help with this. Recently I was put on Provigil but it makes me sleep even more..... which really confuses my primary care physician.
Dies anyone know of other medications that would be good or great for fatigue I would love to hear from you. .... Thank you fir you help!

It's important to figure out first what kind of fatigue you actually have. There are different kinds that MSer's experience and treating it depends on knowing the cause. Provigil, which I take and has been miraculous for me, and drugs like it work best for lassitude. If your fatigue isn't primarily MS lassitude you wont see the same response from drugs like provigil. The national MS society has a good piece on fatigue I'd take a look at that.

Lassitude is something that happens daily. With this you might be absolutely fine when you wake up but hours later it hits suddenly out of no where like someone has flipped a switch. It can sometimes feel like your almost on the brink of passing out, particularly the first time you experience it cause you dont know what it is. Before I knew I had MS, I was having this and used to call it some "wacked out narcoleptic fit" except I didnt sleep. My body just stopped. And it didnt matter how much I was sleeping it happened anyway. That's MS lassitude/fatigue.

Anyway check it out on the NMS website. Hope you feel better!

I was on Provigil when I was first diagnosed and also on Prozac, but I took myself off them because I took the Provigil to wake up and stay up (it's a prescription for Narcolepsy) and Prozac to go to sleep. I decided I didn't want to go through life by taking drugs for those two things. I quit after about 4 weeks. Now I just deal with the insomnia when it happens. I also have a prescription for Ambien when I really can't sleep. I think I might have taken that twice in the last month though.

With all the meds I take, with most of them causing drowsiness I'm surprised that I ever wake up at all.
