Tecfidera Or Gilenya?
I have to choose between one of these 2 medications. Looking for Pros and Cons to both medications.
Thank you
I started Tecfidera about 2 months ago. Was diagnosed in February so it's my first med. Flushing still occurs randomly but isn't a huge deal and goes away in about 45 minutes. Stomach pain around week 2 was brutal, but has come back over the last week. It's not pleasant, but it seems to be very inconsistent. I'm assuming eventually it will be non-existent or at least minimal.
I did forget about the flushing side effects on Techidera but after a year or so on it I didn't really get them any more.
I have been on Tecfidara for over a year and the worst side effect is the flushing. I only had flushing for the first month or so. Now I don't have any side effects. I've never taken Gilenya.
I haven't tried Tecfidera, so I can only give my experience with Gilenya. I had minimal side affects from G (just tonsil stones, which are gross, and not on the list of possible symptoms. They started about 3 months after starting G, and stopped a month after I got off it). It kept me relapse-free for 2 years, but I had a huge relapse coming off it cold turkey to get pregnant. I have friends who were on Tecfidera, the biggest complaint I heard was flushing from the meds.
You can look up each one individually in the Q+A search box at the top of this page and see many pages of previous discussions.
