My urologist has me on nitrofurantoin mcr. Been on it for over a year. I take a little pill three times a week and am happy to say I've gone from having a uti every 2-3 months to not having one for a year now. Good luck!
I was on an indwelling catheter from a blocked urethra tube and couldn't pee so finally I got a spc fitted and it's going well.
I would find an indwelling catheter unacceptably annoying. If you have an incontinence problem, my friend has botox treatment that prevents leakage and relies on intermittent catheterization.
I use an intermittent catheter 3 or 4 times a day, I've only had 1 infection that required medication in 3 or 4 years. I've suspected a UTI on a few occasions and increased my fluid intake substantially for a couple of days and the suspicion (cloudy urine) went away.
