Not diagnosed yet and my doctor tells me everything points to ME but I can't work out why my hands started to lose bulk while I was still using them constantly and had full strength in them, I was in a lot of pain and have been having pins and needles burning, not liking my hands to be touched and loss of feeling for years but I continued to do hard physical graft with them. Does this sometimes happen?
@A MyMSTeam Member, Please do not compare yourself to everyone else, only YOU matter to you. Have you been tested for sleep apnea? Because that may be why your tongue is falling to the back of your throat and blocking your airway when you're asleep. I think you definitely sound like you might benefit from a C-Pap machine to help with getting restful night's sleep where you don't wake up gasping for air at night. Please get that checked out with a neurologist whose specialty is sleep disorders not your current neurologist whose specialty is MS; that's who I see for my sleep apnea.
Don't wait for something to get so bad it might become a problem to the quality of your life because you aren't getting restful sleep and recharging your body's energy. Are you starting to feel zombieish and just kind of feel like you go through the motions each day but start not remembering more and more what you were doing? That was me before I started using my sleep machine, so I know all about this but it's your decision in the end as to what you do but I hope you at least take my suggestion into consideration.
Hi @A MyMSTeam Member my symptoms are very slight, nothing in comparison to what you must be going through! My tongue sits over to the right side of my mouth now and my speech is "thicker" than it used to be. I notice a difference with some words, especially CL sounds. My airway also blocks through the night, I have woke gasping for air as the back of my nose/throat seems to be looser than it was and I can't breath with my head back, that's the only way I can describe it! Like I say my issues are very slight but becoming more noticeable over the months but nothing like most people on this forum are coping with!
Has your primary care physician examined you and maybe taken x-rays or MRI to see if there’s something other than MS going on. I have lots of stuff besides MS come up where I’ve gone to my PCP and had him look at it first. I seldom think MS first because with me anyway, I don’t want it to be my MS.
There are times when my body will tell me it’s something more than my PCP can handle, that’s when depending on what symptoms I have will determine which specialist I go see. I’m very fortunate my husband’s insurance I’m on doesn’t require me to get a referral every time I need to see a specialist.
Of course please remember everything you read are suggestions for you to consider.
Hi @A MyMSTeam Member
Sorry, sometimes I ramble,
In September when my problems seemed to progress I was aware there was something different about my mouth, i wondered what was wrong with me. I had other issues too but although I had pain and numbness in my arms it never stopped me working, I have always worked with my hands, they were strong and I am overweight so they were "well covered :)" with flesh. But I noticed hollows developing in the back of my hands and my watch became loose on my wrist, but I didn't feel any weakness and was still as active as ever. I have not seen a post on here about it and I know everyone is different and it might just be an after the menopause thing! My thoughts are going around and around. My arms and hands feel weak now, I struggle cutting things up and get exhausted quickly. I hope that clarifies what I am trying to say :)
@A MyMSTeam Member I’m a little confused with your question. Explain to me what losing bulk in your hands is because I’ve never had it there to begin with, just skin and strength. What does hard physical graft mean? This is why I can’t offer an answer at this point. I know you meant MS when you put ME.
