Hi everyone! I was diagnosed in Dec w/tumefractive MS. Generally I do not get a flu shot, but with all this crazy flu crap going around lately, I'm wondering if I should? I have had conflicting answers on this. Functional medicine doctors say no, but of course conventional MD's say yes. Fellow MS friends, do you or do you not get a flu shot?
What is the difference between a functional and conventional MD as you call them? I didn’t know there was a difference. Any MD I’ve talked to all think getting your yearly flu shot is good idea. I learned recently in addition to providing protection for this year’s expected flu strains, but if you consistently get your shot year after year it can also help provide protection against other strains not covered by it.
With so many healthy people dying from the flu, some in just a few hours; it’s NOT a live virus, if it was I’d be questioning whether to take it or not like I do with the Shingles vaccine. That one IS a live virus. Be safe, get your flu shot and any other family members as soon as possible, but that’s just my opinion.
No flu shot since dxd, my dr didn't press either way - yr choice. I haven't had a flu/cold in several yrs. Hand wash often, use hand sanitizers when out, don't touch face ect.
I would suggest making sure You take a D-3 every Day to ward off the Flu!
I am a freak with essential oils. I diffuse constantly & make flu fighting concoctions to rub on my body. I also take probiotics daily. So far, so good & no flu shot!
Yeah this is a tough one, definitely a personal choice. Despite my MS, my immune system is pretty tough at fighting off colds and flu (benefit of teaching for several decades!) - I found that I got sick more often when I got the flu shot, so now I don't. But I will say that I am crazy about hand-washing and never hang out with people who know they are sick. It means I'm more of a homebody these days while the flu is running rampant in my area, but that's ok with me....fair price to pay for protecting myself.
