I took Avonex for 6 years, flu like symptoms never went away and then started having heart issues. I stopped the Avonex and everything went to normal again. Didn't take anything for 8 years and had an acute relapse in 2013, been on Copaxone ever since...least toxic ( I believe) and minimal side effects if any at this point.
If you read through some of the questions regarding different medications you'll see a wide variety of responses. The side effects are just the ones they saw during trials - not all possible side effects - and everyone does not respond the same. Some people have less, some people have more. I started on Tecfidera (a pill). I didn't have too many of the listed side effects, but it did negatively impact my mobility, so my doctor and I decided to try something different. I just started Gileyna (another pill) last week. Other than 6 borderline EKGs in the clinic the first day I seem to be tolerating it okay ... but I am in the wait and see game. In any event, the side effects really doesn't end up being dispositive for any one person until you are on it, you happen to get them, and you don't like it. Just remember, there is no guarantee what kind of side effects you'll have. It's just a list of possibilities. Good luck. Not an easy decision on what to take.
