I was on Copaxone for many years, but when my MS turned to SPMS , I stopped taking my Copaxone.

I sometimes wonder if I should have continued with it anyway? Or perhaps find another neurologist?

Members responded to a question about stopping Copaxone after transitioning to SPMS, with many sharing that their own care teams supported discontinuing the medication since it targets relapses, which no longer occur in SPMS. Several members encouraged finding an MS specialist or getting a second opinion, with one sharing that switching doctors led to finding a new treatment that works better. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion, with many reminding the original poster not to second-guess past decisions and to focus on the next best step forward.

I also stopped Copaxone when I moved to SPMS. I discussed this with my Neuro team.....DMT is designed to reduce the incidence of relapses....with SPMS there are no longer any relapses, so there s no point in taking medication designed to slow them down!

While I was scared to stop taking Copaxone, it has made no difference at all to my daily welfare. I do not miss auto injecting everyday!

Don't worry, go with the guidance.

I have taken Copaxone for 6 years. It is the only MS medicine I have been on. We have seen shrinkage in lesions in my spine and it is keeping my brain lesions inactive. This is only my opinion but, I would try to find another Dr. that specializes in MS. It took 3 Dr's to give me a diagnoses. I don't know if the Copaxone will work for SPMS. But, it is keeping me living a manageable life. I still have fatigue issues, and numbness issues.
But, I am thankful I can still walk on my own.
I hope you have a blessed day.
