Can You Donate Blood Having Multiple Sclerosis?
I was wondering if I could still donate blood while having multiple sclerosis. I tried looking it up but got different answers
Guess What, I just googled the blood donation question and received the following:
"Although people with multiple sclerosis can't give blood or donate bone marrow, the donation of organs is allowed. The reasoning is that the recipients of organs can be told about the donor and are in a position to accept any associated risks. With transfusions of blood this is not possible."
When my office was considering participating in a blood drive through the local hospital, I called and asked this question. They said yes, MS itself wasn’t a restriction. You just need to meet the standard criteria but that was no different than what it is for everyone else.
KateHeiserer, I tried giving blood a little bit after starting Betaseron injections and I was flatly refused. Guess it depends on what meds you're on for MS treatment.
The Red Cross stopped me from donating blood and plasma. Supposedly, it weakens my body and causes my body to work harder to replace it.
Hello, I Am Planning On Participating In An M S. Walk. How Do I Donate To The Cause?
