Does anyone have stomach issues and been told it could be part of the MS?

I've got horrible gastric issues: gastritis, Crohn's, IBS with chronic severe constipation. Most of this started decades before my MS dx. Though MS causes slow motility through the digestive system, there has not been any other causal relationship established between MS and other stomach problems. "Slow motility" means that food travels slowly down the digestive system and can cause constipation.

I do think that emotional issues related to MS such as depression and anxiety can certainly bring on stomach problems, though.

Yeah i had read about the vagus nerve that goes from your brain to the stomach. It can be affected by MS and causes everything to slow down. I actually started off at the gastro doctor with a gastric emptying test then to neurology where i was diagnosed with MS. Just thought it was crazy

Hi @Stomach. Yes!! The nerves slow down either because of a flair or just MS symptoms. My issue is slow digestion. I take a daily shot of Goodbelly, a probiotic drink. Sorry to hear you have issues in your stomach. Wishing you better days. :)

Yes, was told by neurologist it was due to muscle spasms. Was prescribed Tizandine, which is helping somewhat. Also high fiber and probiotics in diet is good.

I had really bad stomach issues when I started Tecfidera. My acupuncturist recommended rubbing a little DigestZen essential oil in and around my belly button at the first sign - and while I was definitely skeptical that this would work, it did! Now I do that when I start feeling it and within 20 minutes it'd gone before it can develop into something more unpleasant. Hope you find a solution soon! I know how annoying this can be! XX
