Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Going Off Meds Because Of Age?

My nuerologist says they are finding that people over age 60 are having much less problems with MS and are recommending that patients be weaned off meds. I am 66 and haven't had any problems for the last 17 years, he wants me to start weaning off now, let me know if anyone else has heard of this. He said there are a lot of studies backing this, Thank you all in advance!

Sweet! You have high faith! My husband worked in the coal mines, with very low coal (means not a very high area, couldn't stand up) and he always told me he didn't worry about cave-ins, etc., becuase he always felt "God was on his shoulder." Never heard anyone else use that phrase. Takes a lot of faith to feel that 24/7/365!

I am now 72, and my neurologist said my immune system is so compromised I can no longer take any MS medicines, so he took me off mine and said no one gets them any more over age 65. They weaken the immune system too badly. While on the meds, I got double pneumonia and the flu, so, yes, he is right.

Thank you all for the answers it makes me feel a little more comfortable knowing others have heard this. I am on Avonex so to be done with the weekly shot will be great, I am praying and will continue to pray for Gods' direction in this and will prayerfully remember to update how this goes! If anyone else has a reply for me, great!!! It is always good to hear how others are doing!!

I am 53, wasn’t diagnosed until 52 although I have had it for many many years as I have numerous lesions on T spine C spine and all over my brain, anyway to answer your question my Nuero just said after my 1 year MRIs came back unchanged, that if that continues for the next 10 years, at 63 we would consider stopping DMTs
