WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SATIVEX

A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ipswich, UK

SATIVEX has just been given the all clear in the UK for MS with mild to severe spasticity. The caveats are that your GP has to prescribe it, your local NHs trust has to approve and fund it, and it will be on a one month trial...

Does anyone take this cannaboid medication. Please can you share your experience?

Just be careful if you oil with THC, they taste so good I ate too many and had to take a 4 hour snooze to sober up

AndyBlacker - Sativex was on the drug list here in Canada for MS for about 15 years, long before the feds decided to legalize cannabinoids all together here. If the UK has drug listed it I personally would give it a try for 30 days. It is my understanding that Sativex gives an immediate response as opposed to the usual meds that take time to build up. Also there is no dependency issues with Sativex. There is no comparison with Sativex and regular cannabinoids in its useage. Sativex comes in what I call a "hooter" - similar to what asthmatics use for their condition (puffers).

In relation to our legal cannabis here in Canada, medical use of it has the same conditions as you have in the UK - dr. prescription, medical monitoring, pee tests...which will get you the ability to deduct on your taxes under medical use and any municipal bylaws that prevent useage in public. We still have not had it on the med drug list that the govt will pay for it. Legally, we are at the point where we are coming up with cannabis 2.0 where edibles are being introduced to the public within the next few months.

For those readers who have questions on the legalisation here in Canada. All of this is subject to the fact that legal cannabis can only be purchased through a government supplier - like liquor. Not your dude next door, friend of a friend etc. That is still illegal. Why? Because government suppliers ensure that you are getting product that has not been mixed with PCP, heroin, ICE etc. and is pure in it's percentage points of CB and/or THC. The edibles matter I can see being problematic in a household.

If cannaboids/cannabis relieved all the symptoms i hear others talk about, then i should be the most symptom free individual on here with the amount of self medicating i do.
Unfortunately that's not the case.

I went on the trials 4 Sativex. Spasms were a massive problem 4 me, particularly at night. But during the 16 week trial I managed something amazing.....a full nights sleep. I then saw my superb consultant at Royal Preston Hospital n presented him with all the facts n figures relating 2 the trial. He had no hesitation in prescribing Sativex n my life has improved so much because of it.x
