It is worth planning a walking exercise where you walk only a short distance on day 1, concentrating on each and every step, even if you need sticks or a frame as an aid, then build a bit more into the walk, a bit further each day, to 'recondition' your leg muscles. Resting to restore....

Members enthusiastically affirmed the value of building walking strength gradually, with many sharing personal strategies including daily short walks with dogs, walking steep driveways, using assistive devices like canes or walkers, and alternating between walking and recumbent biking to manage fatigue and pain. Several members emphasized the importance of listening to your body, resting between efforts, and celebrating small victories like increasing steps from a few feet to several miles, with recurring mentions of how movement helps with balance, muscle strength, and mental well-being. A recurring theme was the philosophy of "use it or lose it," paired with encouragement to start slowly, avoid overdoing it, and find joy in whatever movement is achievable, whether walking around the house, at a park, or on a treadmill.

Yes walk a little each day. Then when you feel good add more steps or length to walk. Your legs will get stronger each time. I use a rolling walker to walk because of balance and my leg. I started out short distances and now I'm up to little over a mile each day weather permitting.

I am lucky that I am able to walk, in fact I am walking in an MS walk on May 16. It is important to do whatever you can to try to keep mobile. Even if it is a small movement, it all counts, especially for you mind.
