How do I get info on these treatments here in the USA? And how do I begin the process? I have tried and failed numerous times to bring this up with a number of doctors, and have been shot down every time with comments ranging from “we don’t do that kind of thing here” to a full on outburst full of rather racist comments about “shit hole” countries and “snake oil salesmen” I am a Canadian person living in the USA (permanent resident) and I know for a fact that these treatments have been showing… read more
Reading between the lines of your question and what you've written in your profile it sounds like you've come down with MS and expect the cavalry to arrive to help. I'm sure most on here can relate to that and have been disappointed with the reality that ultimately few people actually care and you're largely on your own.
Not all stem cell treatments are specific to MS, in the US and the UK they only do clinical trials which you have to be invited to participate in.
Some other countries do a procedure called HSCT as a paid treatment costing around 50,000 bucks or more. Nobody has ever been cured as a result of the treatment and 1 in 75 die as a result of that treatment. This is why you get comments like snake oil salesman etc, it's effectively giving people false hope whilst robbing their bank account.
Some who have had the procedure will swear by it but the reality is they still have MS and at best have a temporary improvement in symptoms. Whether that's as a result of the treatment or their mind has a positive psychosomatic reaction is debatable.
Bottom line is there's no quick fixes and no cavalry coming !

There's a place I talked to in San Diego a few years ago. I did a web search for stem cell therapy. When she explained the procedure, I was nauseated, so put it out of my mind.

Look I asked my neurologist about this (& even had a family member willing to pay for it!) He flat out told me he didn’t think it was a good idea.... that they were just not there yet & it wasn’t proven to be effective (yet.)
My advice? See a MS specialist & pay out of pocket if need be. Then ask them what top treatments they would recommend in your case & why. Or ask them what they think about the stem cell treatments.
