How To Get Diagnosed With Ms?

A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭

Try to make short- 2015 hospitalized with symptoms that seemed like stroke. No stroke docs could not figure out what was wrong. After several mri they found 2 small lesions in brain. Important I was in federal prison when this happened. For those of you who don't know health care is a joke. They kill you before they help you. Anyways no diagnosis but neurosurgeon who was my doc, said perhaps ms. I had symptoms and started to follow Terry walls diet as best I could. Then I got out 3 yrs… read more

Sorry for what you're having to deal with. Me, 36 years old and numbness on my left side. Went from waist to foot. Luckily, my primary sent me to a neurologist who happened to be a MS Specialist. After many tests and a spinal tap, he came up with a RRMS diagnosis. Because of the latter, I was able to start on MS meds immediately. 20 years later and I'm doing pretty good. Still working and able to do pretty much what I want to. Wish you all the best 😊

First, sorry. Your story isn't a joy filled one but sounds very similar to mine. You know there's an issue, you just need to find someone to help. Going to a neuro won't mean you will get the answer you seek. You need to see an MS specialist. They know what to look for and will eliminate a ton of diseases with some tests before landing on MS (if MS is the right one though it sounds like it) It doesn't really matter where you saw your first doctor, I swear the "wrong" ones just misdiagnosis if they diagnose at all (sound like your situation? yeah, mine too). I can't say more than try seeking an MS specialist but know I'm pulling for you !!

Thank You for your understanding and support.. How do you get to an ms specialist. I do live in same town as Terry Wahl and of course would love her as a doc.

5yrs ago mine started after my yoga class. I could not swallow and my brain felt like it was filling up with water and intense pain. All while loosing the ability to walk balance and use my left side. Right side of face was drooped. HSU told me nothing was wrong and sent me away. It was the next day when I was bed ridden and couldn't move or understand anything that prison finally took me to er. I stayed there for 4 days with tons of test, mri and other stuff. Syptoms all the same. They released me back to prison and there I slowly got my self back to functioning on my own. Changing diet saved me. 4 month later prison sent me to a neurologist that said nothing was wrong with me. However, I know that the guard wrote a formal complaint on neruologist( pretty shady clinic. They were even smoking in office). Also a few of the medical staff and guard kept an eye on me and gave me some advice like stay out of sun and don't exert myself too much. I guess I'm just scared, tired and want to know what the heck is going on with my body.
