Hi all, i know ive read the best “diet” options are to cook your food yourself- however, i am wondering from your experience are there foods that are completely off limits that people with MS should stay away from? Thx

Look up anti inflammatory diet. I just use moderation with a lot of food. I am not super strict. Really lay low on processed foods.I recommend this for MS or non MS!!

In simple terms, I would say that the best diet is the one that you can stick to so that it becomes a life long change. Lower fat intake, more fresh fruit and veggies. Less processed foods. Canned soup and potato chips are 2 examples of what i would describe as processed foods.
Also, of course, along with what you eat, look at portion sizes and regular activity. I’ve lost over 100lbs and have kept it off following these steps.
Be prepared to make poor descisions with your diet and then shrug them off and move on. I know I am often guilty of turning to food to help me feel better when I’m down, it happens and its okay.

What are processed foods and where do I check on the labels for that? You were very helpful. I'm new to the team by the way. They say the DASH DIET.

In my group of MSers (about 20 or so), I think people have tried every MS diet ever. Most haven't found any difference. For me, I was morbidly obese for much of my life. But after being diagnosed with MS, I actually had more time to devote to myself and decided to have lap-band surgery. That also meant going on a keto (very very low carb) diet. I also started exercising a lot more. I've kept on the diet and exercise for 9 years and kept off almost all of the weight loss. So I do feel better. But it was a combination of everything.
