My story with dreaming is odd. Sometime in my 30s (?) I stopped dreaming. It didn't really "bother" me but I (and others) thought it was weird. So for 15+ years I did not dream. I chalked it up to MS, but doctors and others couldn't say and didn't seem bothered by it.

Then about 3-5 years ago I was having all sorts of MS-related problems with sleeping -- I couldn't get to sleep, had to sleep on a 45-degree angle and more -- all sorts of stupidity.

During that phase my neurologist prescribed me Valium to try to help me sleep. He was reluctant to, due to its addictive nature,

Wow -- that was magical! I started dreaming again!!

It actually didn't help much with my sleep, but I was dreaming routinely.

Even more bizarre is that I had a lucid dream. I had an ex that talked about lucid dreams and I thought that was just BS. But I had one and that was way cool. My thought was that'd be something like heaven would be like -- you're your own god in charge of your own universe, free to change/do whatever.

My doctor didn't/wouldn't continue the Valium prescription but it didn't matter. Something had changed in the wiring of my brain and I was dreaming again -- a "feature" I retain to this day.

I still dream, it feels like I have more of a subconscious life than I do a conscious one at times. It's very odd because I almost never dream about people I know in my waking life. In my dreams, I know them as if we have always known each other. I even have dreams with the same people multiple times, I have my share of nightmares, but I also have more fun in my dreams than I have ever had awake!! It's kinda sad, but also I like to think of it as a silver lining. Before I got MS, I thought and acted like sleeping was a waste of time. Now, no matter how long I sleep, I still wake up exhausted! I try not to nap but some days, it's unavoidable. I will still feel sleepy after taking Adderall! Was on Modafinil for years, that helped a ton!! But my body's metabolism of drugs is unusual and I develop a tolerance quickly. It got to the point that I could take 2 pills and wouldn't feel any more alert. So I don't take it anymore. I do have pretty severe ADD, so rt now I take the max dose of Adderall and like I said it's still hard some days to make it all day awake. My actual life revolves around weekly dr appointments so at least I'm having a blast when I'm asleep.

I am so thankful to sleep all night, when I do. I'm not thinking about dreams. Getting my sleep,🥰 is a DREAM come true!

Still dreams. Nightmares sometimes. Sometimes I am struggling to wake up it seems and I am unable to.
