My Neurologist referred me to a physiatrist to help increase my mobility specifically my walking/gait. He is recommending Botox injections for my legs and I want to know if anyone has had the injections and if they've been successful?
I was getting Botox treatments every 3 months and it helped increase my mobility by decreasing the pain I had in my legs after walking. It was temporary though. I couldn't use Baclophen. I then went on Tizanidine and it proved to be more effective
Nope, let me know, xoxo
I just had my first Botox injection to improve spasticity of ankle. I am not sure it helped. However, the dr said the first dose is small to make sure there are no adverse reactions. I will do the next one in May and see what happens. I Alonso take 60mg of baclofen everyday and not sure it is helping. I also took Tizanandine but that makes me too lightheaded. I also do acupuncture and feel like if helps
I have been doing the Botox injections in my legs now for a year. I'm happy to report that they do make difference! I'm doing 2 in the left calf (my weaker side.) And one in my right calf. After the 3rd injection I began noticing, without trying, that when going upstairs I lift my left leg and bend my left knee to bring up to the step rather than swinging it out and around. After the 4th injection I noticed again without effort on my part that not only am I bending the left knee to go up steps but occasionally I actually go up to the next step rather than the step my right foot is on. The excitement of going up stairs like a normal person again is exhilarating!!! My Dr doing the injections is as thrilled as I am. I also notice that I'm walking more heel to toe than before. And more left knee bending than swinging around.😊
After the 1st injections I had some muscle soreness in the leg injected a few days after the injection. During my follow-up the Dr told me it was likely due to his visual assessment of my walking differently. I was not even aware! I've now done a 2nd set of injections with higher doses and more injection locations now including both legs. The Dr has told me that he is still working to determine the correct dosing and the locations for injections to achieve the greatest results. I do notice some improvement, particularly bending the left knee when walking instead of swinging it around.
