What are the % of people with ms who develop dementia vs the general population who develop dementia. Especially those with issues affecting speech, decreased cognitive ability, as opposed to those who have functional issues of walking, any motor skill dis function?

During a mean 4.4 years of follow-up, the incidence of any dementia among these MS patients was 17.08 per 1,000 person-years compared with 7.36 for controls. This corresponded to a 2.34 times higher risk of developing dementia
It also depends on when you're diagnosed. I got diagnosed in my 50s. I had MS for a very long time ,doing it's damage. I've also read about ADVANCED MS and then LATE STAGE MS. The lesions in the brain from MS can cause significant cognitive decline, the longer you have it, for alot of people. I really do believe that I'm probably in the advanced MS or pretty close to it. Everyone is different as to how it affects you. My short term memory is not the best. I'm doing memory puzzles every day now.
@A MyMSTeam Member, I agree, I may have a lot of atrophy but my brain has wired itself around most of it luckily.
Sorry for the typos!! I was saying that at that time, I did not notice anything. Now it’s very very different!!
