My first visit, the neurologist looked at my MRI. Said I probably had MS but he could only be sure with a spinal tap. Said he wouldn't prescribe any meds until I had 2 flare ups. He said I would have bladder and bowel problems, possibly seizures. He had me do some things with my fingers, he checked reflexes. I refused to have a spinal tap. I saw him a couple times (not many choices where we live) then he moved and my primary care found me an MS specialist. It made a lot of difference.
They will also test your body but not in a way that hurts like touch your nose, walking tests, for me having numbness they do a pin prick test, and a tuning fork test where they just place it vibrating on your legs to test for spasticity.
Make sure he knows MS. NOT all do. It took me 3 tries. He will ask you to demonstrate ability to use cranial nerves, ability/strength, An MRI or CT scan may be ordered to look at the brain as well as a lumbar puncture and blood tests.
Do not be discouraged with your first experience with a Neurologist. If it does not go well do not be afraid to see another doctor. It took me years to get hooked up with a Neurologist I trusted. Then I retired and moved to a new town, and had to start all over again. Trust your gut.
