Be sure to talk to your neurologist about this. There are tests to rules out causes. Do you have complete memory loss where you don't know who you are?

Yes, memory issues are very common with MS, affecting between 40-70% of people with the condition. MS-related memory problems typically affect executive functioning, which includes tasks like planning, multitasking, and quick recall of information. These cognitive changes are different from other types of memory disorders - they don't typically affect your ability to recognize loved ones or know who you are. Memory issues in MS are caused by immune system dysfunction that damages the myelin sheath protecting nerve fibers in your central nervous system. This particularly affects areas of the brain like the hippocampus, which controls memory and learning. People with progressive MS may experience more significant memory challenges than those with relapsing-remitting MS.
If you're experiencing concerning memory lapses, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider, especially if you notice other MS symptoms worsening. Sometimes, factors like medication side effects, fatigue, or poor sleep can also contribute to memory difficulties.
