I often get a pain on my right side below my ribs, but no gall bladder issues. Feels like pain and pressure. I write it off as reflux

Pain is a very common symptom of MS, affecting up to 80% of people with the condition. One specific type of rib pain that many experience is known as the "MS hug" - a sensation that can occur around the rib cage.

When experiencing rib pain, it's important to be able to describe it clearly to your healthcare provider:
• Is it sharp, dull, burning, or aching?
• Does it get worse with deep breaths or coughing?
• What makes it better or worse?
• Have you experienced it before?
• On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate it? There are several ways to manage rib pain in MS:
• Using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
• Applying heat or ice therapy
• Getting adequate rest
• Trying physical therapy
• Practicing mindfulness or cognitive behavioral therapy

If your rib pain occurs during MS relapses or is getting worse, it's important to discuss this with your neurologist. They may need to adjust your disease-modifying therapy (DMT) to better control your MS symptoms.
