I’ve been on this medicine for over 15 years
In Canada he trade name is Fampyra, the generic name is 4 amino pyradine
I’ve found that it helps my walking, a bit but not a lot
I found no difference between the generic and brand name version
BUT the brand name costs 10 times more
So I always get 4 amino pyradine 10 mg twice daily , morning and noon
If I forget my noon dose I’ll be wondering at about 2-3 “ why is my walking so difficult “
That’s for me

What medication was recommended for balance issues in MS?

The medication you're likely thinking of is dalfampridine (Ampyra). This is specifically approved to improve walking in people with MS and works by helping nerve signals travel better through damaged myelin.

A MyMSTeam member shared that their neurologist recommended Ampyra for walking and mobility issues related to spasticity, noting that their gait improved on the medication.

Other medications that some members have found helpful for balance and walking difficulties include:
- Gabapentin (Neurontin)
- Diclofenac

These can help when nerve issues are affecting your balance and coordination.

It's important to talk with your doctor about which option might be best for your specific situation. They can assess what's causing your balance problems and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
