I am newly diagnosed with MS after I went to the ER a month ago with blurry vision and got steroids and testing done. Now, a month later, I have new/worsening numbness in my legs and pain in my neck. It will be different for each of us. I only go if I'v fallen and hit my head or know something got hurt.. ER is 30 miles away and I've always been the "I'll wait and see if whatever goes away" This is not something I encourage, it's just the way I was brought up.
Going to the ER is costly and rough, but it's a positive for getting your symptoms documented and getting treatment if it can be treated and imptoving QoL. It's a decision you have to make, what is best for you?
When should you go to the ER for MS symptoms?
It's understandable to feel uncertain about when symptoms warrant emergency care, especially being newly diagnosed. Generally, MS symptoms are considered serious enough for the ER if they prevent you from:
* Eating or drinking
* Caring for yourself
* Walking
