Maybe Santa could leave a 3 wheeled one under the tree? Years ago my brother just brought me one when “I didn’t want or need one either” (let’s face it most of us felt that way in the beginning. I mean a walker with brakes! It was laughable at the time but I love my black one with a splash of color. I wish I had it when I lost my balance and fell causing me 15 stitches and a bloody mess. There are so many varieties and no you don’t always need it. Wish you both well on your ms journey.
Yes, he could possibly lessen his falls w the walker next to the bed using it as he goes. What is the reason he doesn't want to use it consistently? My mom (who has other issues including weakness unrelated to MS), could not use a cane properly but is much safer w a walker for balance and stability. She also uses bed rails. Using a walker is cumbersome and seems slower but falling and breaking something is more confining. Would it be possible to have a mini fridge close to the bed? Is the toilet far?
I'm not sure who is talking to who at this point. I was responding to KarenPacini and her question regarding her husband who falls. If he transfers from/to bed... Could you explain what is on his feet and what aids he uses or doesn't use. That helps to paint a clearer picture. Everyone have a good day!
A walker next to my bed and a good night light in the bathroom helps me to move safely. Admitting I needed to do this to avoid a fall took awhile, but now it is my routine!
Thanks for your input, NordicPrincess. I don’t believe he realizes he should be using the walker at night for stability, even though drs and myself have shared that he would be safer. “Through his eyes” I think that if he uses a tool, walker or wheelchair, he will decline. Kinda fighting for his independence even though it could cost him his life.
I like your idea of a refrig nearby or maybe even putting snacks within reaching distance.
Thanks for your suggestions!
