Common motor and physical symptoms include:

- Movement impairment, lack of coordination, and imbalance
- Muscle weakness (often on one side of the body or from the waist down)
- Dizziness and vertigo
- Fatigue (a major symptom that affects daily activities)
- Bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction

Vision problems are often early symptoms:

- Optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve)
- Blurred vision or vision loss in one eye
- Blind spots
- Color blindness
- Painful eye movements

Sensory symptoms:

- Numbness and tingling (dysesthesias) in arms, legs, hands, or feet
