Are sharp pains in your ears and back of your teeth coming and going common MS symptoms?

Yes, these types of sharp, intermittent pains can be MS-related symptoms. Some MyMSTeam members have described similar experiences with facial, ear, and tooth pain that comes and goes.

One member shared: "Does anyone have facial pain? It almost feels like tooth pain, face pain, a headache, ear pain, shoulder, neck, and back pain all in one."

This type of pain could be related to trigeminal neuralgia, a nerve pain condition that can occur with MS. People with trigeminal neuralgia often describe the sensation as shockwaves or electric shocks that radiate through their face, lasting up to several minutes per episode. MS can cause this if a lesion develops on the trigeminal nerve.

Common triggers for trigeminal neuralgia include:
- Brushing teeth
- Eating or drinking
- Washing or touching your face
- Getting a strong gust of wind in your face

It's important to report these symptoms to your neurologist, especially if they're new or worsening. They can help determine if this is related to MS activity or a relapse, and discuss appropriate treatment options like medications or other interventions.
