I know I need to get back in there. I have NO MOTIVATION and I can easily talk myself out of joining a gym. I had a strong and muscular build...all gone now. Gathering up the courage and stepping foot in the gym just seems like too much. The Texas heat will kill me. How do I get that drive back?

Members rallied around someone struggling to find motivation to exercise again after dealing with MS, DDD, and the effects of COVID, with the community offering both encouragement and a wide range of practical ideas. Several members shared home-based alternatives to the gym, including walking pads, recumbent bikes, chair exercises, stretch bands, swimming, and YouTube channels like MS Gym, emphasizing that small movements like squats in the kitchen or 10-minute sessions all count. A recurring theme was that starting small, being consistent, and giving yourself grace are far more important than getting back to where you once were.

What I did for DDD. I see a pain specialist. He did an ablation. In other words, he used radio waves to burn out the nerve ends so I can't feel the pain. It may take a few tries to get it right. It worked for me the first time. I have heard it worked for others. Sometimes they get it the first time and then the nerve ends grow back and you have to do it again. It worked for me the first time but even if you have to do it again, its worth it. Finally, the 3rd time usually gets it permanently. It's different for different people.

The holy trinity-pushups, pullups and dips and also the lowly trinity- squats, situps and lunges. Do as many as you can, simple and effective, no weights needed

Sweetheart... was that you posting about all your hiking you used to do, years ago?

I'm so sorry dear, even if it wasn't you. It's a long road, this one, and not always clear and straightforward.

It sounds like you may benefit from a back brace of some kind-- to help you set aside degenerative disc discomfort. Also, there are drug free resources than can be applied topically-- for maybe temporary relief of your discomfort. Ice packs? Warming options?

I myself just learned within the past month that OTC pain meds like ibuprofen are best when administered by weight, rather than there just being one standard dosage for everybody.

I hope you'll consult with any medical folks you have assigned to you.

This is not a failure, truly... this is MS in real time.

If everyone had an ongoing MRI bet there'd be less stigma and greater understandingb of how this is.

Reddit may also be a valuable resource for you.

I hope you give yourself grace and patience.

All the best,
🦋
