Are you experiencing thigh pain and a burning sensation that's different from your usual symptoms below the knee, and wondering what's going on with your foot too?

Both of these experiences are very common with MS. The burning sensation and thigh pain are likely a form of neuropathic pain β€” this happens when MS damages the protective coating around nerve cells, causing them to fire random, confusing signals to the brain.

Some common descriptions of this nerve pain include:

- Burning
- Pins and needles
- Stabbing or prickling
- Tingling
- Numbness
- A crawling sensation on the skin

One MyMSTeam member described it as "burning pins and needles and tingling, stabbing, electrical pain." It can shift to different parts of the body, which may explain why it's now showing up in the thighs rather than just below the knee. As for foot drop, it's a symptom where weakness or nerve issues make it hard to lift the front part of the foot. People often describe it as:

- Dragging the foot while walking
- Feeling wobbly or unsteady
- Needing to lift the knee higher than normal to avoid tripping
- Hip or lower back pain developing over time from the changed walking style

It can be tiring and affect balance, especially on stairs or uneven surfaces.

It's really important to bring all of these symptoms β€” the thigh burning, the shift in pain location, and the foot issues β€” to your neurologist. They can help figure out what's happening and put together the right plan for you. Don't brush them off as "just MS" β€” quality of life matters! πŸ’™

My neurologist said the burning sensations are due to MS, but I know there can be other causes too. Best to get checked out πŸ’œ

I had burning sensations on my thighs. I am wondering if it’s related to your back? Drop foot can be MS and/or your back. I definitely would see your primary doctor and order tests.

Yes when I first got diagnosed with MS I was having a burning sensation inside my head. It was actually pretty painful. I still get the burning sensation around the rest of my body.
