Members discussed how to stop taking gabapentin safely, with the overwhelming consensus being that tapering off gradually with a doctor's guidance is the safest approach rather than stopping suddenly. Several members shared personal experiences, including one whose neurologist sent a lower dose to the pharmacy to begin a slow reduction, and another who had a rough experience switching to Lyrica before being tapered off gabapentin entirely. A recurring theme was the importance of involving your neurologist in the process, with many members noting that while gabapentin can cause side effects like fatigue, weight gain, and loopiness, the tapering process was manageable and not as difficult as feared.

@A MyMSTeam Member your supposed to taper down to get off of it safely, I would definitely get with my doctor and let them figure that out.

I do not like gabapentin it made me feel really weird , I just stopped taking it but if you have been taking it a long time or a high dosage you probably have to speak to your neurologist and taper off. @A MyMSTeam Member

I'm taking less and less until I stop completely. I think it's helped me lose weight too.

I, fortunately, didn't take it longer than a few times. After researching, I never continued & my Neurologist was fine with my decision!

So it's not working for you anymore, the neurologist will likely have you weaned off gradually. I wouldn't do it myself.
