Members shared a wide range of visual challenges related to MS, including double vision, optic neuritis, light sensitivity, and significant vision loss in one or both eyes. Several members noted that while glasses help with general eyesight, they offer little relief during active MS-related vision episodes, and some described permanent vision loss even after steroid treatments. A recurring theme was finding ways to adapt, including prism glasses, darkly tinted lenses, vision training exercises, and in some cases, medication that helped restore partial vision.

I had one bout of optic neuritis in 2011 which I was initially treated with 5 days of steroids. After the initial therapy which was unsuccessful, I was admitted to OSU for plasmaphoresis for 14 days which minimally restored some sight in my right eye. I now have vision in the R eye of 20/700 with corrected lenses and have significant difficulty in using peripheral vision in that eye as well. So, I no longer drive but am able to do most everything else. I was prescribed two sets of glasses, one for distance and another for reading and computer work which widens the visual area.

I wear glasses full time and have since I was 18, but when Optic Neuritis pops up, they are utterly useless to me.

My field (I'm an Early Intervention Vision Teacher, or used to be. For myself I just ordered these special glasses which have a special tint, meant for light sensitivity and am hopeful they will make life easier. Otherwise I do wear very darkly tinted glasses these days. You should visit an Optometrist and ask about vision training. You might be prescribed prism glasses, minus or plus lenses, or bifocals. It is known that some of us might be able to stimulate development of better vision and might even recover at least some of it. My own vision is much better these past few weeks due to the new oral medicine but I try to do computer every day to practice and increase vision by tracking left/right, right/left, etc.
