I don't know how proper this is to ask here but I am very curious of your experiences with Social Security Disability.
According to the government I'm educated, experienced, and young (35 is still young yaaaay). Anyway, I worked a several month notice at work due to my position and left at the end of 2011. I filed for disability back in January 2012 and appealed the 1st denial, then got a lawyer who has appealed the 2nd denial. I send my lawyer a journal each month and she pulls medical records… read more
Here is a question upon this question: What in the world do people do to survive if they are unable to work and disability is not approved for over 2 years???
It took about 1 1/2 years for me to get my disability. I did my first time of trying for disability. I was 33 when I was dx with MS and tried for disability. I found a lawyer that only deals in Disability. I got to the point that I was to have a trial too, but my lawyer wrote a letter to the judge and he signed my disability. I heard it is kinda tough getting a time to have your trial, I have a friend in TN that is trying for disability too. I wish you good luck.
I got really lucky with disability, I dont know why because I had heard horror stories of people waiting for years. I applied, jumped through the hoops of seeing their doctors and about 9 months in I got a check in the mail, I had no idea what it was for and when I called they said it was presumed I would be approved. I got a check each month and then was officially approved in May 05. Took me 10 months. I was having alot of flare ups and they were hospitalizing me for them. I think I might have just gotten lucky on whoever got my case. Good Luck To you
I did mine by myself and it took 2 years with being turned down twice and then I went before a judge who then sent me to another doctor, this one of psychiatry who recommended that I be given the disability for the stress I had been under for 2 years
The best thing you can do for a ssdi case is to contact your local congressman. I thought that the process would be a long road and dreaded going down that road but I knew it needed to be done. I also thought because of my age they would deny me (I'm 31 now, 30 when I applied). At the social security office, it seemed the representative was not accepting medical paperwork and speaking in a condescending manner. So my husband wrote a letter to our local congressman and my case was expedited and approved in two months. Good luck to everyone and hang in there.
