I had my blood drawn for my Vitamin D levels to be checked per my Dr.'s request and I am at a level of 17. I am taking a high dose of Vitamin D for 4 weeks then start a lower dose daily. Has any one else had their Vitamin D levels checked??
Yes- I have. Mine were low like low 20's. My Dr. had me take Vit. D3 which I took regularly. On my next lab check my vit D level was normal. When I finshed that bottle I decided to experiment & stopped taking them. Sure enough my level dropped again & my fatique was much worse. Went back on my Vit. D3. Level came back to low normal range & my fatique is a little more manageable. Does this help??
I also had my levels checked and were very low. Dr. put me on 50,000units a week for 2 months and I take 4,000 per day now. I did notice a difference when I first started to take vit.D. I felt better. My husband also noticed a difference. My husband doesn't have MS, but we live in a part of Ohio that is very overcast and cloudy most of the time. I asked my husband to have his levels checked. He laughed at me and so did the Dr. because my husband is an avid golfer and is out in the sun all the time. The Dr. took his blood work and his was pretty low. He also takes Vit. D everyday.
MS people should have a blood test to determine Vitamin D -25(OH)D level twice a year: in mid April and mid October. Depending the test result one should adjust the supplementation level for next 6 months.
The ms doctor told me that vitamin d was every bit as important as the ms drugs
Yes. I don't recall what my levels were, but I do recall that they were very low. My Dr. also had me start vitamin D in high doses. I noticed a marked improvement. My levels came back up and then after several months of a lower, daily dose, they ended up too high. I never would have known because I felt great, but my Dr. had me stop taking them. Still feel fine and I've been off them for at least a year.
