I will be flying for the first time next week since being diagnosed in Jan of this year. Any advice?

@Tuberose11, Be sure an ask for wheelchair assistance at the check-in counter, if the place where you board is far, and the walk is too much, it will wear you out. When THEY see you in a wheelchair, you'll GET preboarding. When in flight ask the flight attendant to schedule a wheelchair at your destination too. They're good at taking you to the luggage carousel and out to the shuttles. I usually tip $5, probably too cheap, but it's what I can afford. Keep hydrated. And have a good flight! Hugs

@Travel @Tuberose11 - I think all of the above is great advise. I was embarrased when I asked and had someone push me in a wheelchair before flight (I live in Atlanta, and it's HUGE airport) and upon return. I got some funny "looks" but I was on verge of relapse and there would've been no way I could've walked to/from Entrance to Gate and back and depending on what Concourse you fly into AND what gate - it's a long distance.

Bottom line, we all do what we're going to do, but please don't let the embarrassment force you to walk - you'll feel bad afterwards and will take longer to get back to normal (well, at least that's my experience).

Best of luck on your flight(s).

BarbyJean's comment re wheelchair assistance is absolutely right on! Once you get to the airport, you don't even have to try to find your way aroung. They take over and you're guaranteed to be on your flight on time (with early boarding). The amount of time, stress, and energy (especially energy!)it saves is priceless. Have a great time!

Great advice, AgentKurtCIA. Sometimes we're too embarassed to ask because we don't "look" sick. Take advantage of that perk.

If you take injectable meds make sure you have easy access to it in your carry on so you can get to it easily when going thru security.. Get up & move about periodically when given the ok by pilot so your muscles do not cramp up. Enjoy yourself:)
