I have left leg pain when walking distances, (like from the car to a store) and then by the time I get into a store, I have to find somewhere to sit for a few minutes and then the pain goes away, until I get up and start walking again. My neurologist says it muscular/skeletal? It seems like a progression of MS to me. Does any body else have this happen??
I do have something, at least similar to what you describe. If I am walking distances at a store, must walk behind a cart. I don't walk outside anymore for exercise, but at the gym on a treadmill, so I can have the sides to hang onto. It used to be after 20 minutes or so, now less, but at least I can still walk. Even though in heat or times when I'm tired, it can feel like I'm dragging my left leg along for the ride...
@bcalato I'm no professional but as I understand it MS itself doesn't cause pain. The nerves that control the muscles are shorted out. The surrounding muscles and bones try their best to compensate. The pain is from doing what they were not designed to do. I'm pretty sure that is what meant by "muscular/skeletal" The pain I was experiencing before my diagnoses was the over use of a muscle group in the top part of my right hip. The PT assigned some exercises to strengthen that area. No matter what I did, any gain in strength slipped away.
Thanks for all the input you guy's! I really appreciate it. My neuro told me to take ibuprofen 3 times a day, but that doesn't work either, so far! I'm just kind of disgusted because I can't even do any gardening any more, my husband does it all. And I shouldn't complain, because like just jenny said, I can still walk!!!!!
Thanks Joe, That is what I understand also. I am doing muscle strengthening exercises for my right leg now, it is helping alittle! I'll keep plugging!!!!!
@JoeDP, that's exactly where I feel it, bone on bone almost. Very painful. I've never had hip problems before, could be the nerve endings around the hip socket? Most of my MS shows itself from the waist down, so it could be MS related. Hugs Joe
